We were thrilled to welcome 600+ attendees from 128 companies, across 25 countries, to Belfast for the EU Connect 2022, 13–16 November.
PHUSE provided knowledge, tools, inspiration, opportunities and experiences for advancing careers – and the data science community as a whole.
Alongside Connect elements attendees know and love, such as the Connect Stream Presentations and the Hands-on Workshops, this year’s event introduced new features: our Interactive Sessions on Professional Development, Personnel Management, and Analytical Risk-based Monitoring; Connect Themes Presentations on How to Put the FHIR Out, To SCEs and Beyond, and Taking Advantage of This New Post-COVID World; and our educational learning path for new starters, ‘Passport to Learn’.
Attendees were inspired by three incredible keynote speakers: Neil Martin, one of Formula One’s leading data analytics scientists; Nicolas Hamilton, the first disabled athlete to ever compete in the British Touring Car Championship; and Olympic gold medallist and England and Great Britain Captain for 13 years, Kate Richardson-Walsh.
We held the Poster Session & Welcome Event, sponsored by Entimo, which covers Stream topics in a visual manner and is the perfect place for conversation and informal networking. Our renowned Connect Dinner, hosted at the incredible Titanic Belfast and sponsored by Plus-Project, was a really enjoyable evening, and the Speed Networking Event, sponsored by Real Life Sciences, was also a great opportunity for connecting.
Hear from Gary Kennedy, 2022 Connect Chair, for his thoughts on the event and his experience supporting PHUSE.
“Thank you all for what was an excellent return to once again meeting in person at the PHUSE EU Connect 2022 in Belfast. Along with the three very high-quality keynote speakers, many of you shared with me that the standard of presentations and workshops was set at a very high level this year, which was great to hear.
I know also you enjoyed the social events, and “Good Craic” was had by all. I’ve been Co-chair or Chair of PHUSE now for three years and would like to thank PHASTAR for supporting me in giving me the time off to do this. It really has been a wonderful experience and while I will miss it, I will still be supporting PHUSE the best I can in all other ways possible. In a time of difficulty for many organisations I hope you and your companies can continue to do the same. The baton will now be in the very capable hands of Edwin, Anne-Sophie and Jennie, and I know I can’t wait until Birmingham next year.”

Hear from Edwin Van Stein, 2023 Connect Chair, on next year's EU Connect.
“With the resounding success of PHUSE EU Connect 2022 still fresh in our memories, preparations have started for PHUSE EU Connect 2023! I would like to welcome you to Birmingham, home of Cadbury chocolate, Peaky Blinders, areas that served as inspiration for many locations in The Lord of the Rings, and a center for early heavy metal (sounds like my kind of city!).
The conference will contain great presentations, posters, hands-on workshops, interactive sessions, networking, and social events. As usual Call for Papers will open in March. I hope to see you all in Birmingham!”
