PHUSE Diversity & Inclusion Baseline Survey Report – White Paper Now Live

In 2021, PHUSE and its partner organisations (CDISC, HL7 and PSI) conducted a highly confidential diversity and inclusion survey. This was one of the biggest of its kind, collecting 1,098 responses, and targeted those who work in the biometrics and related spaces of the pharmaceutical industry.

Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is a cornerstone of a more equitable society. Given the important work done by the pharmaceutical industry and the diverse communities that it serves, it is important to understand the level of diversity and inclusion within the industry itself. The primary goal of this survey was to gain a baseline understanding of where the biometrics and related spaces are now. Furthermore, it was hoped that sufficient data would be collected to be able to identify trends and relationships as well as potentially make some initial observations and recommendations.

The results of the D&I survey suggest that the level of diversity and inclusion within the biometrics and related spaces of the pharmaceutical industry is incongruent with the diverse communities that it serves. This disparity is not unexpected. D&I begins when every individual makes the time and effort to learn how to become allies and actively practises being an ally. Some pharmaceutical companies have allyship resources and initiatives that can be leveraged today. These efforts need to continue and to expand across the industry as well as within pan-company communities.

This white paper includes some fantastic recommendations that company and community leaders should seriously consider implementing in order to reduce the D&I incongruity.

“As a leader, I've passionately been driving a diversity, equity and inclusion agenda with my organisation. However, I regularly questioned what the actual availability of diverse talent in our industry is, and how my organisation compared to that. I was so pleased that PHUSE was willing to step up and drive a survey to help answer these questions. So I'm thrilled to see this survey conclude and a corresponding white paper published.”
