Following a memorable visit to K J Somaiya College of Science & Commerce on 6 November 2023, the PHUSE Academia Meet continues to make waves.

To express her gratitude and give back to her alma mater, Mamta (PHUSE India team representative) decided to connect and explore the opportunity of collaborating with undergraduate students at K J Somaiya College of Science & Commerce to create awareness around both PHUSE Education and the clinical research world. The College was enthusiastic about the proposal and visit, and a date was set accordingly for Mamta to talk with the microbiology students.

Mamta, PHUSE APAC Blog Lead, conducted an engaging and informative one-hour session, where she explained the clinical drug development process and the data science community’s role in today’s era of clinical research. She guided the students to select careers such as data scientist, biostatistician, clinical data manager and statistician programmer, and their importance in the current healthcare market. She also gave a detailed introduction to PHUSE and other associated activities. After the session, Mamta received feedback from Dr G. S. Rao that she delivered an engaging session, with conversation that deeply resonated with the students.

The event was well supported by the faculty and received an overwhelming response from different department representatives: Principal Dr Lolly Jain (Microbiology Department), Namrata Nagwekar (Statistics Department), Chitra Kamath (Department of Chemistry) and Samidha Pawaskar (Department of Biochemistry). This translated into numerous requests for follow-up sessions from the faculty, who are eager to explore aligning their curriculum with industry requirements.

The PHUSE visit to K J Somaiya College of Science & Commerce is testament to the dedication of the PHUSE India Academia Meet initiative in strengthening the gap between academia and industry. The event concluded on an encouraging note, and PHUSE express their sincere gratitude to the KJSSC Alumni Association Editor Dr G. S. Rao, Principal Dr Lolly Jain, Prof. Dr Chitra Kamath, Prof. Poonam Shinde and Prof. Pooja Nandi for their support in organising such a successful PHUSE industry–academia meet event.
