Introducing the New PHUSE Board Member

We’re excited to announce the appointment of Anne-Sophie Bekx to the PHUSE Board as the new Education Director.

Anne-Sophie brings a wealth of experience from her role as Head, Submissions & Regulatory Intelligence at Janssen EMEA. Since joining PHUSE in 2017, she has made a significant impact – most recently leading the EU Connect 2024 in Strasbourg as Connect Chair.

Her longstanding involvement and leadership within PHUSE reflect her passion for collaboration, learning and innovation. We’re confident she will bring that same energy and vision to shaping the future of our educational programmes. Please join us in welcoming Anne-Sophie to her new role – as we give you a glimpse into Anne-Sophie’s vision and what inspires her…

What inspired you to pursue the role of PHUSE Education Director?

My experience with PHUSE Education started during my tenure as PHUSE EU Connect Chair for the 2024 conference. We held a successful Learn@Lunch session, where industry starters were paired with senior leaders to kickstart their networking and career brainstorming. This experience was immensely gratifying and ignited my passion for fostering knowledge and continuous learning. I believe that creating educational opportunities and facilitating knowledge is instrumental in moving our industry forward and supporting better healthcare for patients everywhere, so I’m absolutely thrilled to join the PHUSE Education team.

What unique perspective do you bring to the table?

My previous experience as a CDISC CDASH and SDTM trainer honed my skills as an educator. Being an instructor to my fellow peers across the industry taught me how to engage learners effectively, assess their needs, and customise content to ensure it resonates with their experiences. Working with PHUSE as an EU Connect Chair gave me the opportunity to lead a large cross-functional team and highlighted the importance of collaboration and communication. Together with the exceptional volunteers in the PHUSE Education team, I’m confident we can bring educational programmes that meet the varied needs of our community.

How would you describe yourself in five words?

Dedicated, collaborative, enthusiastic, considerate, and inquisitive.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as PHUSE Education Director?

I am most looking forward to developing engaging and relevant educational initiatives that empower individuals to excel in their careers. Additionally, I look forward to collaborating with industry leaders to ensure our educational offerings are tailored to their needs and add value to our industry.

From your experience, what key lessons will be valuable in this role?

One key lesson from my experience is the importance of adaptability and responsiveness to the changing needs of the industry. Another is the value of networking and building relationships to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among peers in the field.

What’s one professional achievement you’re most proud of?

I am most proud of the initiatives I was involved in where we were able to challenge the status quo and successfully roll out a new way of working, resulting in operational efficiency.

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry and to someone well established in their career?

Whether a new starter or a seasoned professional, I always advise having a growth mindset and sharing knowledge and experiences with others, to foster a culture of continuous learning within our industry. To paraphrase my fellow board member Shereen from her blog post when joining the Board: be humble, and acknowledge that you may not be the smartest person in the room, but you can always learn!

Please join us in welcoming Anne-Sophie to the Board. Feel free to view the Volunteers Board for opportunities for getting involved in furthering the PHUSE message.
